Jaw Slimming Teeth Grinding Treatment in Manchester Cheshire

MASSETER BOTOX TREATMENT IN ALTRINCHAM & HALE CHESHIRE & MANCHESTER

From £400

Botox treatments to the jaw muscles (masseters) are used to reduce the nerve supply to the muscle and make them less active. This treatment is available in my Altrincham Clinic, Cheshire and treats teeth grinding, jaw clenching (bruxism) and associated migraines.

The masseter muscle is one of the 4 muscles responsible for chewing. Interestingly, this muscle is the strongest muscle in the body relative to its size, allowing really high forces to produce a powerful bite!

HOW CAN MASSETER BOTOX HELP?

Dr Ed Robinson Aesthetics Masseter Botox Altrincham Hale Manchester Cheshire

Unfortunately, overdeveloped masseters can both cause and develop from excessive teeth grinding and jaw-clenching, which may be caused by stress. This can damage the teeth over time but can also lead to bruxism and migraines which can be debilitating.

Cosmetically, bulky massesters can give a masculine appearance, which some people might dislike.

With repeated treatments over time this leads to slimming-down of the jaw muscles which produces a more feminine jawline.

MASSETER BOTOX IN CHESHIRE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Masseter treatments are very quick and usually take about 15-30 minutes.

A further treatment will be required at 2-4 weeks.

  • Botox treatments to the jaw are used to reduce the nerve supply to the muscle and make them less active.

This reduces the predisposition to grind teeth (bruxism) which can be a source of headaches/migraines.

With repeated treatments over time this leads to slimming down of the jaw muscles which produces a more feminine jawline.

  • Please come to the clinic without make-up as this will have to be removed.

Avoid the use of skincare active ingredients on the day and stop any retinol-containing products 24 hours before-hand.

Avoid alcohol for 24 hours prior to treatment.

  • Botox treatment involves several small, relatively painless injections in the face using very slim needles.

The face will be cleaned before-hand with antiseptic and aftercare will be applied once treatment is completed.

Note that prior to treatment a personalised consultation is necessary to ensure the best approach.

  • Following 2 treatments of Masseter Botox, further treatment is required every 4-6 months to maintain results.

Lifestyle factors such as physical activity, smoking, alcohol consumption, recreational drug use and sun exposure will result in a shorter duration of action.

  • Not immediately!

Botox treatment results usually starts to work apparent after 2-3 days. You may start to notice improvement in headaches during this time.

Cosmetically it takes about 3-6 months to notice a reduction in muscle bulk of the masseter, so some patience is required!

  • There are very few side-effects or complications following botox treatment.

Mild swelling is usually very brief and small bruises may occasionally occur.

Avoid the use of active skin ingredients on the day of treatment.

Avoid the consumption of alcohol for 24-48 hours.

Avoid strenuous activity, saunas/steam rooms which may promote sweating as this increases your risk of bruising.

Do not massage the face immediately after treatment.

  • Jaw-slimming treatment with Masseter Botox is £400 for the first 2 treatments. Please see the pricing section for all prices.

  • Jaw-slimming treatments with Masseter Botox use very small needles and treatment is usually painless.

  • Masseter botox treatment may be an effective treatment for teeth grinding and its associated headaches. However, slimming of the masseter muscle usually produces a more feminine face which may be undesirable. This appearance could however be balanced using placement of dermal filler in the jaw.

  • Patient safety is my number one priority when treating.

Botox is well-studied, safe and has a very low risk of complications and side effects when administered by a trained medical professional.

The NHS website is a fantastic resource regarding the safety of cosmetic procedures including botox.

Botox treatments are not suitable for patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding, allergic to botulinum toxin, taking certain antibiotics or who have certain neurological disorders such as myasthenia gravis.

  • Side effects are a rare (but not impossible) result of treatment. As a trained medical professional, I am well positioned to minimise these risks.

    Side-effects include:

    • Temporary difficulty chewing

    • Headaches and flu-like symptoms

    • Pain, swelling and potential bruising to the area of the injection
