SkinPen Microneedling is a state-of-the-art cosmetic treatment that utilises advanced microneedling technology to stimulate the body's natural collagen production. This minimally invasive procedure involves creating controlled micro-injuries to the skin, which triggers the skin's healing response. As a result, new collagen and elastin fibers are produced, leading to firmer, smoother, and more youthful-looking skin.

BENEFITS OF SKINPEN MICRONEEDLING:

SKIN REJUVENATION: SkinPen Microneedling effectively rejuvenates the skin by minimising the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots. It stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, which improve skin elasticity and texture.

ACNE SCAR REDUCTION: SkinPen Microneedling has shown remarkable success in reducing the appearance of acne scars. The controlled micro-injuries promote the growth of new skin cells, gradually fading acne scars and improving overall skin texture.

HYPERPIGMENTATION TREATMENT: SkinPen Microneedling can help address hyperpigmentation issues, such as melasma or sunspots. By encouraging new cell turnover, it diminishes the appearance of pigmented spots, leading to a more even complexion.

MINIMALLY INVASIVE: Unlike surgical procedures, SkinPen Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that requires little to no downtime.

VERSATILE AND CUSTOMISABLE: SkinPen Microneedling can be tailored to your specific needs and concerns. The depth of the micro-needles can be adjusted to target different skin areas, allowing for precise treatment of various cosmetic issues.

COMBINE SKINPEN MICRONEEDLING WITH PRP: THE VAMPIRE FACIAL

HARNESS THE POWER OF GROWTH FACTORS: PRP contains a concentrated amount of platelets, growth factors, and other essential proteins that promote tissue repair, collagen synthesis, and cellular regeneration.

COMBINATION TREATMENTS: PRP therapy can be performed in combination with microneedling and polynucleotides for added effects e.g. the Vampire Facial.

Jenny’s Story

Dr Ed Robinson Cheshire Jenny Powell

“Dr. Ed has been the most informed and considerate doctor administering my polynucleotides / PRP and micro-needling. I have only ever had one treatment of profhilo previously and was hesitant and wary until I met with him. He is so knowledgeable in his field but also takes a very considered interest in you as an individual and your particular needs, concerns and results!

I cannot recommend him enough and he has opened my eyes to the fact that if you find the right doctor for these natural, enhancing and rejuvenating treatments then there’s no looking back. I am nothing but elated by what we have achieved so far and look forward to sharing an incredible journey with him to make the most of what we have. It’s a beautiful thing! Thank you Ed.”

SKINPEN MICRONEEDLING IN CHESHIRE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • SKinPen treatment length depends on the individual but can vary from between 30 minutes to an hour.

An individual area will be shorter to treat, while treating multiple areas will take longer.

I can give you an idea of how long a treatment will take during your consultation.

  • SkinPen Microneedling is suitable for all adults and is used for the following:

    • To improve acne scarring

    • To improve fine lines and wrinkles

    • To improve skin texture - tightening and plumping

    • To reduce pore size

    • To reduce stretch marks

    • To improve skin pigmentation

    • To help treat alopecia

It may be combined with other treatments such as Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) for an increased effect.

  • Please arrive at your appointment without any makeup as this will have to be removed.

A week before the treatment, avoid taking aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E and fish oil supplements as these may increase bleeding. However, you can take paracetamol if needed.

If you are taking any prescribed medication, including aspirin, do not stop taking it.

Avoid drinking alcohol 24 hours before your treatment, as this also increases the risk of bleeding.

  • SkinPen Microneedling incolves a specialised handheld medical device to create multiple predefined mechanical ‘injuries’ to the skin using very fine needles. This is intended to stimulate the body’s natural repair system to stimulate collagen and elastin production and firm up ageing skin.

As a result, active skincare products are also able to penetrate more deeply into the skin for increased efficacy.

SkinPen is able to be used on the face, neck and body for a number of indications.

Certain areas may be more uncomfortable than others and therefore numbing cream will be used to anaesthetise the skin before-hand.

The area will be cleaned with anti-septic solution first.

Aftercare will be applied to reduce inflammation after treatment.

  • SkinPen Microneedling results usually last approximately 4-6 months.

Lifestyle factors such as physical activity, smoking, alcohol consumption, recreational drug use and sun exposure will result in a shorter duration of action.

  • The results from SkinPen Microneedling may start to become apparent after a week but will become most noticeable after 3-4 weeks.

For best results, several treatments are recommended initially with a quarterly upkeep.

A treatment course will be decided upon during your free bespoke consultation.

Mild swelling may occur initially which usually calms down after 48 hours.

  • After your treatment, your skin is likely to appear red and feel more sensitive.

Avoid the sun but avoid sunscreen immediately after your treatment – once your skin has calmed, use a high factor SPF30+. I can prescribe several options.

    Ensure you stay well-hydrated.

Don’t use ‘active’ skincare products (retinols, AHAs, acids) until 5 days post-treatment.

Dont apply make up for 24-48 hours after treatment.

Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours as sweating can enable bacteria to enter the channels created during the treatment.

  • SkinPen Microneedling prices start at £250 but vary considerably depending on the areas treated. You will be advised on a price based on your bespoke consultation.

Please see the pricing section for all prices.

  • SkinPen Microneedling may be somewhat uncomfortable but usually not painful.

As an anaesthetic doctor I am well placed to reduce anxiety and pain during procedures using a number of techniques.

Numbing cream will be applied before the procedure.

  • Absolutely! Microneedling formen is an excellent treatment.

Book a consultation to see what other treatments may be suitable.

  • In the hands of an experienced, medically trained injector SkinPen Microneedling is a safe, well-studied treatment and side effects are rare.

Microneedling is unsuitable for anyone who has/is:

    • Pregnant or breastfeeding

    • Used Roaccutane in the last 6 months

    • Open cuts, abrasions, wounds

    • Had radiation therapy in the last 12 months

    • Active cold sores or skin infections

    • Skin numbness

    • Keloid or hypertrophic scars

    • Poor wound healing due to conditions such as Diabetes.

  • Most common side effects are mild and short-lived. As a trained medical professional, I am well positioned to minimise these risks.

Your skin may become red, itchy and inflamed post-treatment, a little like sunburn. This should last no longer than 48hrs.

    Other side effects include:

    • Minor flaking/dryness

    • Scabs/skin peeling

    • Milia (small white spots) may appear on the skin

    • Hyperpigmentation (skin darkening)

If you are susceptible to cold sores, you may find that you have a breakout following a microneedling treatment. Taking a course of Acyclovir prior to your treatment can help prevent this.
